Situated in the centre of a triangle between Niort, Poitiers and Bordeaux, Vanzay offers the best of both worlds – the buzz of beautiful historic regional towns and the peaceful pace of rural France. Surrounded by open countryside but located within the village, La Ferme de l’Eglise is an oasis of tranquility within a step away from fields of sunflowers and corn.
We’ve really enjoyed being in ‘the middle of nowhere’, where in reality we’ve had excellent access to many regions and places – you are very well located for exploring a very large region of France.
The big sky, from horizon to horizon in some places, delivers warm sunshine in the day and bright stars at night, with the most glorious sunsets in-between.
Criss-crossed by chemins blancs, the gravelled farming access roadways, the area is perfect for cycling and walking, birdwatching and just enjoying the great outdoors. For those of you who are interested in birdwatching, you may see the cranes going one way or the other, depending on the time of year, and see if you can see one of the native species of eagle amongst the many different species of raptors.
