We didn’t have to look far for something to get to work on …… the big barn which houses La Grange hadn’t had half of it’s roof renovated for around 100 years and it looked a bit dangerous, with those tiles hanging off the roof over the door!

Discovering the well

Everybody in Vanzay has a well, it seems. You see them in gardens, by gates and it’s clear that at one time, everyone pumped or collected their water from the abundant water table below. However, we didn’t seem to have one, although there is a long non-functioning hand pump just outside La Petite Maison. This was the clue to the location of the well.

When we first viewed the house, the horse chestnut was in flower and it just owns the courtyard.  It is such a beautiful tree, enhanced by the amazing blue sky that, for me, epitomizes the Poitou-Charentes region.

Gîte rental and classic car hire at La Ferme de l’Eglise in Vanzay, France

Since 2007 John and Abi have been providing gîte rentals in Vanzay. More recently the hire of classic cars has been added to the services that they offer so now anyone staying in the gîtes has the use of this service.
